Virginia Tech Hokies vs. South Carolina Gamecocks -6.5; Total 52
Can Virginia Tech bounce back from last season? The Hokies entered last year with significant hype but fell far short of expectations. With quarterback Kyron Drones returning this season, they could surprise some teams. They need to rebuild their defensive line, but the unit should remain strong. I think South Carolina is slightly overrated, as they’ve gone from hunters to the hunted. The roles have reversed for these two teams this season. I’ll take the points with Virginia Tech. I also bought up to +7, though I try not to make a habit of it.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish -3 vs. Miami Hurricanes; Total 51
Well, we lose the Virginia Tech cover thanks to a punt return for a touchdown and a 60 yard bomb for six. The Hokies offense couldn’t close out any drives so that didn’t help. We’ll have a strong coach in Marcus Freeman taking on a poor coach in Mario Cristobal. Miami will have a veteran quarterback with Carson Beck against a first time starting in CJ Carr. This should be a great game between two teams with Playoff aspirations. Each team has their unknowns but after the way Notre Dame played against Texas A&M on the road last year, it gives me confidence in the Fighting Irish and Marcus Freeman. I think they get another strong road win to start the season. Tons of pressure on the Hurricanes at home. Every major “public” team has been slaughtered. I have been on the wrong side of those with Texas, Alabama and Clemson. Some of the drawbacks of betting on opening weekend before having a good idea about most of these teams.
