WM Phoenix Open Preview:

Scottie Scheffler attempts to repeat as Waste Management Phoenix Open Champion.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open plays host to the unofficial start of the PGA tour season. This year the desert is will be hotter than ever and it is not due to the temperatures. This year the WM Open plays second fiddle to another event in the area, some might have heard of the annual event called the Super Bowl. Playing second fiddle to the Super Bowl is not a bad thing, actually in this case because I feel it is exactly what the PGA tour needs right now. The crowds and stadium atmosphere of the WM Phoenix Open at hole number 16 on TPC Scottsdale are a yearly treat for golf fans and non golf fans alike. In years past, the crowds would be mellow for Thursday and early Friday rounds but come the weekend the place would explode! That’s where I think this year will be different. This year I am looking forward to the Super Bowl crowd coming into town early to have the course rocking from the first tee time on Thursday to the final pairing on Sunday.

The Field:

This year’s field of players is littered with the top tier of remaining PGA players, including World #1 Rory McIlroy. Also included in the field, in my opinion the best golfer in the world at the moment John Rahm, who is familiar with area, as he attended Arizona State University. The list of stars does not stop there. Big names such as Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris, Colin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Max Homa, Cameron Young, Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama, and Shane Lowry to name a few. With the on going battle between the PGA and LIV Golf, fields like this slate is what the PGA Tour needs to keep the upper hand over the rise of LIV golf.

The Course:

The TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course is set in heart of the Sonoran Desert. It’s a beautiful oasis of kelly green set in the deep red sand that surrounds the area. Desert golf is a far reach from origination of the game of golf set on the lush green knolls of St. Andrews. When you are playing in a desert setting there are many different aspects that come into play that are make it a unique experience. For example, on traditional golf courses you have fairways, rough, sand traps and trees. In a desert golf arena you still have the latter but also experience challenges from rocky sand areas, cacti and huge rocks. Ask Tiger Woods about the issues or I guess non issues with huge rocks in the sandy rough. He left us with one of the great Phoenix Open tournament moments. Although most of the pros playing this weekend all have some experience playing in Phoenix, who knows what tricks the Sonoran Desert will throw at the field this week.

We have a DDSN Golf Algorithm that attempts to calculate the Top 25 finish of the majority of PGA tournaments that we will see this season. Use this Top 25 to help guide you through any daily fantasy contests, tournament bets, pools with friends or any type of possible wagering. We are confident in the DDSN Golf Algorithm that has been developed for the past 5 years and now being showcased. We will keep track of the correct % of the Top 25.
