  • [ROT #669]: Southeast Missouri State Redhawks vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders (-3.5); 5:40 pm cst

SEMO has had a solid season and they are on a four game winning streak. These Corpus Christi Islanders are red hot as winners of its last 9/10. SEMO arguably plays in a tougher conference than Corpus Christi so I put that into consideration. It’s the Corpus Christi offense that sets them apart. They are superior offensively, defensively and from the 3PT line. If SEMO had a strong defense that would give them a shot here but they don’t. SEMO also defeated the top teams in its conference in the conference tournament so maybe they can pull off an “upset” in this one. I can’t get passed SEMO’s 193rd ranked defensive efficiency. Corpus Christi’s offensive efficiency is ranked 37th and I rather back that horse in a winner take all game. Plain and simple.

  • [ROT #702]: Pittsburgh Panthers (+2.5) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs; 8:10pm cst

This is about the same handicap as the one above. MSU is a team I do not believe should be in the tournament. They can play defense but cannot score. MSU ranks dead last in 3PT shooting. Pittsburgh has a veteran team, can shoot the 3PT and has a good offense as they rank 23rd in offensive efficiency. Same story: I rather have the team that can score points in a pinch. I’m not sure what the Bulldogs did to receive a bid. Panthers are in a play-in game and NC State is safely in, which doesn’t make sense. Pitt will prove they belong in this game.
