Texas Stories: Tariq Woolen & Cameron Dicker
NFL All-Pro rookie Corner Back Tariq Woolen from UTSA by way of Fort Worth, Texas.
Where you from and how’d you get here? In Tariq Woolen’s case, he’s from Fort Worth, Texas, played for Arlington Heights and then the UTSA Roadrunners. He only won a conference championship, the first in program history at UTSA. He was drafted in the 5th round #153 and posted the 3rd fastest 40 yard dash at the NFL combine at: 4.26 seconds. Woolen finished his rookie season tied for 1st in the NFL in interceptions with six. This is not normal for a rookie corner. Woolen showcased his special abilities covering the world’s best WRs going step for step. Tariq is a 6’4” corner with 4.26 speed from Fort Worth, Texas and played at little ol’ UTSA and was named NFL ALL-PRO. Ladies & gentleman this is no every day feat that goes without notice or recognition. This is an amazing story of Tariq giving his all at every level and achieving the title of the best on the planet. He’s from Fort Worth and he went to UTSA. Anything is possible.
Now we move on to another story that is similar except we were given a new chapter tonight. A great story that I believe just begun.
Cameron Dicker “the Kicker” was born in Hong Kong, China and later moved to Austin, Texas and played for Lake Travis HS. He made his name after he buried a kick in the 2018 Red River Shootout vs. OU to win the game. Naturally he was then named Dicker the Kicker - Big Dicker Energy - you get the point. He then makes it to the NFL in 2022 as a practice squad player. A freak injury brought him in to start for the NFC #1 seed Philadelphia Eagles. In the one game he played he was 2/2 100% but was later cut when kicker Jake Elliot returned from injury. He’s a solid kicker and the Chargers just lost theirs so who do you call? Dicker the Kicker. Now with experience, Dicker is absolute nails for the Chargers. Including his 2 made FGs for Philly he went on to make 20 FGs in a row … until tonight. Tonight was the NFL Wild Card game @ the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cameron Dicker was 3/4 tonight making a 53 yard field goal but missed a 40 yard chippy. His incredible story and journey of mental toughness and perfection got wiped away immediately. The game wasn’t on the line when he missed but it sure as hell decided the game. All it takes is seconds. It’s time for Big Dicker Energy to pick himself off the mat and persevere once again.
Two very young players in the NFL doing great by the state of Texas. What a season. This is Texas football.
