NBA Las Vegas Summer League: Day 8
It is time for the much anticipated Las Vegas Summer League in the NBA where the new draft picks get to show what they are made of. This is a one of a kind opportunity for those players still looking to make G-League rosters and fit into their new NBA rotations. We will update as much as possible with early scouting reports and handicaps for wagering. We got off to a good SL start so let us keep it goin’. We are betting 1 unit to win x.
NBA Las Vegas Summer League Record: (+6.55 units)
3:30pm cst: Oklahoma City Thunder -6 vs. Washington Wizards
The Thunder have plenty to play for today: final four tournament, SL championship ring and prize money. OKC has made it this far so I imagine they will be playing all starters as this number suggests. Wizards do play hard but they do not have a great offense. Lay the points.
Pick: Thunder -6 (-110)
4:00pm cst: Los Angeles Clippers -2.5 vs. Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers are a good team but this Clippers team plays hard every game. They are led by pure point guard Jason Preston and one of the oldest SL players veteran Xavier Moon who brings the energy. The Sixers are also on a back to back and out of playoff contention. The Clippers have a chance to still get in depending on point differential so give me the Clippers.
Pick: Clippers -2.5 (-110)
5:30pm cst: Boston Celtics -3.5 vs. New York Knicks
The Knicks got their win the other day by a point against the Magic who are one of the worst teams. The Celtics play with energy, defense and they have interior size with their Euro players. JD Davidson has been impressive so has Jordan Walsh but we have been so high on him out of Arkansas.
Pick: Celtics -3.5 (-110)
6:00pm cst: Dallas Mavericks vs. Indiana Pacers -3.5
The Pacers are a solid club but are nowhere near as good without Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard. The Mavericks have the player to win this game and they always play with good energy. This number is too high for the current Pacers roster.
Pick: Mavericks ML (+135)
7:30pm cst: Miami Heat -4.5 vs. Denver Nuggets
The Heat destroyed the Warriors last night exactly how we predicted it would happen. The Nuggets will only be playing for pride or what’s left of that pride after this Summer League performance. The Heat can still reach the playoffs as the 4 seed depending on the Utah Jazz. Plenty for Miami to play for and they are humming right now. They take this unless they are hungover after last night.
Pick: Heat -4.5 (-110)
8:00pm cst: San Antonio Spurs vs. Detroit Pistons -4
The Pistons have a great team led by Ausar Thompson who showed off what he can really do last time out. If everyone is playing for the Spurs, which I expect, this is a high number. It appears Malaki Branham has been shut down for summer league but the Spurs still have a strong team that has been playing together. This will be the Pistons second game without Jaden Ivey, Wiseman and Duren so I will take a dog shot with this Spurs bunch. #4 seed on the line.
Pick: Spurs ML (+150)
9:30pm cst: Utah Jazz -5.5 vs. Phoenix Suns
The Suns only have pride to play for here and the Jazz have everything to play for as they are 3-0 looking to lock in a tournament spot. This Jazz offense is high powered and there is absolutely no reason to take the Suns here. Spread should be higher.
Pick: Jazz -5.5 (-110)
10:00pm cst: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Lakers -2.5
One thing I have noticed and learned from this Grizzlies team is that they are lazy and quit very easily. Kenneth Lofton Jr. plays hard every game but David Roddy has looked very poor. Jake LaRavia has also looked good. This Lakers team can still sneak into the playoffs and I think they bounce back after a terrible performance against the Celtics.
Pick: Lakers -2.5 (-110)
