College Hoops Conference Tournaments Wednesday

It’s March, time for conference tournaments and it’s the last opportunity for schools to punch their ticket to the Big Dance. As we previously discussed, we will be handicapping the conferences we have been watching closely all season. Going into today’s games our record on the season is: (126-127-3) with our goal to finish above 52%. Let’s get after it!

  • St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. Davidson Wildcats (-4); 10:30am

This is a game I feel plays out like the Richmond game yesterday. It wasn’t an official play but I talked about it on Twitter. I thought even though the Spiders were cold they had all the talent to win some games in this tournament. I feel the same with Davidson here. The Wildcats finished the season winning 3/4 games so they are in good form, much better than the Bonnies. This number should be closer to 6.

  • Richmond Spiders (+2.5) vs. George Mason Patriots; 1:00pm

Like we talked about on Twitter, this Spiders team has plenty of talent and can make a run in this tournament. They are missing a couple key pieces from last seasons team but if Tyler Burton is making his shots and controlling the offense I have faith in Richmond.

  • Colorado Buffaloes vs. Washington Huskies (+4); 2:00pm

This is a total matchup play for me and Colorado doesn’t matchup well with the Huskies. Washington has size and one of the best point guards in the Pac 12 in Keyon Menifield. The number isn’t correct here. I’ll take the points with UW.

  • DePaul Blue Demons (+6) vs. Seton Hall Pirates; 4:30pm

DePaul always give Seton Hall fits especially in the paint. Every single game between these two is a back and forth battle. Seton Hall is also coming off a huge road win at Providence so there could be a little lingering hangover. I think Seton Hall is in but you never know because there could be some bid stealing in these tournaments. I like DePaul to be focused and keep this one close.

  • Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (-6); 8:00pm

The Cornhuskers aren’t playing at home but they come in as one of the hottest teams in the Big 10. The Golden Gopher offense is usually very stale and stagnant the opposite of Nebraska. The Cornhuskers have the Japanese flame thrower Keisei Tominaga leading the way.

Other Highlighted Games:

  • Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-2.5) vs. Syracuse Orange Men; 11:00am

Both of these teams are coming into the tournament ice cold after being on the right path of making it into the tournament or at least the bubble. These two are firmly on the outside looking in. I like Syracuse’s team more than Wake Forest. If Appleby isn’t scoring for Wake then they are usually in trouble. It’s a pass for me but I’m leaning to taking the points with Syracuse. I thought they would be favored here.

  • Fresno State Bulldogs vs. Colorado State Rams (-2.5); 1:00pm

Colorado State has won this matchup 10x in a row and I don’t think that run is going to stop here. This will either be a tight game or CSU runs away with it.

  • Butler Bulldogs vs. St. John’s Red Storm (-6.5); 2:00pm

St. John’s has had Butler’s number for awhile now but again we say this every week, which St. John’s team is going to show up? I cannot play the Johnnies with their turnover issues. I wouldn’t play Butler either. St. John’s is the better team, this number would need to be below 6 for me to entertain it.

  • Saint Joseph’s Hawks vs. George Washington Colonials (-1); 4:00pm

Joe’s has played the Colonials tough each time out. They can shoot the three and put on a good performance against Loyola-Chicago in the first round. Of course, this will be a step up in competition for St. Joe’s and I feel like the number is just too short here. The Colonials finished the season on a very strong note so I have to pass on this game.

  • Air Force Falcons (+6.5) vs. UNLV Rebels (-6.5); 3:30pm

The Falcons always play UNLV tough and its never easy for the Rebels when Air Force comes to town. This is a very young Falcons team but after a year of Mountain West play under their belt they should be ready for this game. They are very well coached and run a crisp offense. As much as I want to, I’m not sure I can trust Air Force here because they rely too much on the 3PT.

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (-4.5); 6:00pm

The Red Raiders will be without head coach Mark Adams after he was suspended by the University. No need to get into that right now. I lean WVU here but the hook is scaring me off. There’s no telling if TT will be playing inspired or flat with out Adams on the sidelines. I like WVU at 4 but don’t feel comfortable playing TT here. Pass.

  • Oklahoma Sooners vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (-1.5); 8:30pm

Both schools are doing everything they can to punch its ticket to the Big Dance. Avery Anderson III has started limited practice but I’m not sure if he’s going to play or not. If OSU loses they are out and OU jumps them for the time being. I think Avery Anderson plays and they beat OU but there are just so many unknowns. OU has proven tournament players and shouldn’t be over looked.
