College Hoops Wednesday

Back to our winning ways after a (4-1) Tuesday that should have been a clean sweep. Xavier blew a 13 point lead in the second half and lost the game straight up against Villanova. Plenty more basketball today so let’s jump right into it!

Providence Friars (+7.5) vs. UCONN Huskies; total 142.5; 5:30pm ct

The Friars are coming off of two strong home performances but now they must travel to Storrs, CT to face the Huskies. Providence is solid veteran squad on the road and I feel this is just too many points here. This could very well end up like the Marquette vs. Creighton game last night where we see the road team steal a game. To keep pace to try and win a regular season Big East title, Providence needs this win. They have the size and toughness to matchup with UCONN. If UCONN makes 15 3PTs then maybe we lose this one but I think Providence keeps this game close.

Syracuse Orange Men (+5) vs. Clemson Tigers; total 145.5; 6:00pm ct

The Orange Men are coming off a 22 point loss to Duke on Saturday where they couldn’t hit a shot to save its life nor grab any rebounds. The Blue Devils dominated. I expect Syracuse to shake that game off and get ready for Clemson. The Tigers also had a bad loss on Saturday in the form of a 10 point road loss to Louisville - the worst team in the ACC (on paper). Clemson has struggled recently after its hot start. They need to win this game to remain towards the top of the ACC and Syracuse needs to win to help ensure they get an NCAA Tournament bid. I feel this number is 1 or 2 points too high. Syracuse is not terrible and play well on the road. Going back to the well here with Jim Boeheim.

Vanderbilt Commodores (-2.5) vs. LSU Tigers; total 140; 6:00pm ct

LSU has yet to show any life this season, which is due to the entire team being comprised of transfers. Vanderbilt on the other hand has won 5 games in a row and now that they have senior forward Liam Robbins back they look as strong as ever. Complete fade of LSU and buying on Vandy here where the spread should be a bit higher. This number basically states Vandy would only be favored by .5 or 1 at home… Yeah I don’t think so. ‘Dores!

Kentucky Wildcats (-2.5) vs. Florida Gators; total 139.5; 6:00pm ct

The Gators have lost their most important player in senior center Colin Castleton for the season with a hand injury. Kentucky has been playing well on the road. I was impressed with Kentucky on the road last week at Mississippi State and they took care of business at home vs. Tennessee. Florida will not have a answer for Oscar Tshiebwe inside the paint. This is too short of a number mostly due to Castleton’s absence and the Gators lack of offense.

New Mexico Lobos (+6) vs. Boise State Broncos; total 147; 9:30pm ct

This should be a great Mountain West game. The Lobos have been a bit cold as of late losing some very bad games but they bounced back by destroying San Jose State on the road. This game I believe could very well determine if they get into the NCAA Tournament or not. These team match up will with one another and played an incredible game earlier in the season. The season is starting to slip away from New Mexico at the wrong time. They will keep this game close because their tournament lives depend on it. The spread was UNM -2.5 earlier in the year when these two met. Huge correction. I’m buying low on the Lobos.
